One of the most highly rated artists by our staff, we cannot recommend this CD enough. The most pleasant surprise of 2002 is Katie Todd, a diminutive singer-songwriter from Chicago whose debut album is packed with remarkable pop songs centered around her astonishing keyboard skills and breathtaking vocals. Todd's piano playing draws from Elton John one moment and George Winston the next. She sings in a voice not unlike Natalie Merchant; her composition style is smart, compelling, and classically-trained; and her band is tight, well rehearsed and ready for fame. Changing Faces is an astounding debut that puts Todd on the map as one of the most promising and likable new talents on the singer-songwriter scene. MusicBox-online.com
Performing with STEVE WINWOOD, JEWEL, 10,000 MANIACS all within their first year, the creatively independent Katie Todd Band has burst onto the Chicago music scene. Her unique voice is enchanting at times. And her musical style is captivating. There's a welcome depth to the songs, and a heartfelt message intertwined with her talented handling of the piano. -Singer Magazine
The richly talented [Katie]Todd
on this self-released CD debut has turned her consistently catchy but simple songs into a full set of strikingly original three dimensional three- and four-minute dramas. Anchored by her gutsy, distinctively raspy, idiosynratic vocals, hopped up on brass backing, underscored by rich and surprising violin, driven by rhythmic beds of bright mandolin or drum solos, surrounded by resounding Edge-style echo guitar, her songs shimmer and satisfy with a level of polish and promise their promising young author has only begun to deserve. There isn't a boring song on the album. Darryl Cater, ChicagoGigs.com
